Tuning Piano: How Often?
Most experts and piano manufacturers will recommend that you should tune your piano at least twice per year, depending on the climate you live in. The reason for this is because when the seasons change and things get either colder or warmer, the strings in the piano can stretch or contract, altering the sound of the piano. When this happens, it is time for tuning piano. To tune a piano it requires a very highly trained ear. You need to be able to detect even the slightest change in sound. The piano has to be opened, and the strings either loosened or tightened accordingly until the sound is perfect. For this reason, most people will hire a professional piano tuner to come out to their home and adjust it twice per year or so. This can become very pricey when you have to pay for it twice annually, so some people opt to do it themselves instead.
